Since the formation of Tip of the Top in early 2009, it has grown to become one of the most talked about bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band's musical style is reminiscent of the 1950’s and their live show contains many of the musical elements that have come to be known as American Roots Music. Tip of the Top's debut CD Depot Street Blues, which has been well received by both fans and blues music critics, is but a small sampling of the many musical styles that you will experience at a live show. “Tip of the Top, I love your CD (Depot Street Blues) and I listen to it all the time… I listen to lots of CD’s everyday for the magazine and your sound is unique…the sound, the cohesion, the grooves and the feel are fantastic…it is a pleasure listening to this CD.” - Erick Diard, Thouars, France Publisher European Blues Magazine, Blues & Co www.blues-n-co.org “...classic Juke Joint Blues, very up beat and simple. You'll want to get up and dance! My foot was tapping the whole time! This is a band to get out and see!”
- Big Wayne, LiveBluesTonight.com Jon Lawton is the kind of guitarist that musicians notice. He knows how to build a solo and how to play rhythm ... (Lawton displays) mastery of slide (guitar) ... (Lawton's vocals) evoke a mood like the ultra-coolness of Willie Mabon. (Kumar has been a) best-kept secret commodity around the South Bay in recent years ... Kumar's vocals and harp shine ... (Kumar plays) very tasteful acoustic harmonica ... (Carlos Velasco and Frank DeRose) anchor the groove-driven arrangements. The lead instruments blend in to create a unified sound. These guys sound like a band. - Joel Fritz, Golden Gate Blues Society
